30 kW PV Solar Roof

MAREC showcases UNI-SOLAR PVL-128 flexible PV (photovoltaic) solar panels to harness energy radiated by the sun. The solar array generates 30 kW from 6,138 square feet of solar roof panels.  The flexible construction of the panels and ability to absorb energy in low light makes this technology ideal for MAREC’s Muskegon Lake location.

Photovoltaics is the direct conversion of light into electricity at the atomic level. Some materials exhibit a property known as the photoelectric effect that causes them to absorb photons of light and release electrons. When these free electrons are captured, an electric current results that can be used as electricity.

Monitoring and archiving
The following measurements are displayed on the "Real-Time Monitoring" page.  The values are collected from the solar panels and updated on the website every 5 seconds.
