MicroTurbine Information

MicroTurbine
MicroTurbine
30 kW Microturbine

general information
MAREC has a Capstone C30 combined heat/power micro turbine that can supply up to 30 kW of dynamic power. It is comparable to a jet engine that can turn up to 9,000 rotations per minute.  The heat recovered from this technology is utilized to augment the facility‚Äôs sidewalk ice melt system.

Technical INFORMATION
Microturbines create reliable electricity and heat.  They have low emissions and achieve up to 80% efficiency, where a traditional power plant achieves approximately 35% efficiency.  Natural gas is the fuel for this turbine, which turns a generator to produce electricity. The hot exhaust air resulting from this process is used to heat a working fluid, which is circulated through a system of pipes under MAREC's loading dock driveway.  This effectively heats the driveway to melt snow in the winter.

Monitoring and archiving
